Yoga Therapy

Do you have chronic pain or an injury you would like to heal?

Is stress wreaking havoc on your mental and physical health?

Would you like to play a role in healing yourself?

Yoga therapy could be just what you need.

Yoga therapy consists of the application of yogic principles, methods, and techniques to specific human ailments. In its ideal application, Yoga therapy is preventive in nature, as is Yoga itself, but it is also restorative in many instances, palliative in others, and curative in many others.

Yoga Tuneup Balls

The Yoga Tuneup balls are amazing. They are integrated into the Yoga Therapy sessions.

I have been using them with my own yoga practice and they are wonderful for making our connective tissue more fluid and free which makes stretching our muscles more available. They work as a healing mechanism and are unique in their ability to facilitate self-healing.

Our bodies are natural healers.

Your body has an innate intelligence that knows how to heal itself. Poor habits, which can be physical, mental and/or emotional, can cause your body to compromise and compensate for these habits. When you feel tightness, the body is often protecting itself from misalignment. When we bring the body into proper alignment it can relax. This eliminates stress and allows the fluids of the circulatory and lymphatic systems to move more freely throughout the body bringing in nutrients and flushing out toxins.

More and more scientific studies are finding evidence of the potential healing powers of yoga.

Research done at UC San Francisco, Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as other well respected institutions, has proven that yoga can affect us at a deep molecular level. The relaxation response from yoga creates positive changes in our brain cells, and stem cells. It improves energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, insulin secretion, and telomere maintenance, as well as turning off gene expression involved with inflammation.

Yoga therapy focuses on addressing specific health conditions, injuries and chronic pain.

Sessions are tailored for each individual to work with and within their unique issues and capabilities. Athletes, weekend warriors, flexible people, inflexible people, couch potatoes and seniors can all benefit.

A yoga therapy session is a blend of yoga poses and techniques helping you to understand your body and listen to it respectfully.

You will never be asked to do something that feels painful, but you will find parts of your body opening up and being strengthened as well as lengthened. Yoga is unique because it works ranges of motion that most of us do not do in our daily lives. The awareness gained as you heal your body will play a big part in preventing future injuries.

Finding balance and finding the root cause of your discomfort is the goal of yoga therapy.

Our bodies are an intricate web of muscle, bone, and connective tissue. Often pain is referred pain, so the area that feels painful is not the part of our body causing the pain. With yoga therapy we look at how different areas of the body affect each other. For example we may work on lengthening the hamstrings and quads to help alleviate tightness and pain in the low back. We will work together to find imbalances and bring the body and mind back to balance.

Balance is an integral part of yoga therapy.

It is about bringing balance to the whole person, not just eliminating a problem. Yoga helps us to see how vital the integration of mind, body, and spirit is to our health. Yoga therapy will teach you to listen to your body with respect and create changes that can last a lifetime.
